Hilary Archer

I was made redundant with many others in 1995 and after two days went to Fareham College to build up a port-folio to secure a place on a Degree Course, a dream I had kept after 35 years to Study 3D at Southampton as a full time mature student.

1995-96 - Fareham College. BTEC Advanced General Vocational Qualification- Distinction.

1996-97 - University of Southampton Foundation-National Diploma in Art and Design.

1997-2000 University of Southampton. BA Hons (Fine Art)

It is difficult to pin down my style of painting, as it has moved on from an obsession with conveying speed within a group of sportsman, to expressing my reaction to a specific area, from busy construction sites (one painting won the Lord Mayor of London's award) to the-sea or rivers locally or abroad.

I paint in oils, watercolour or mixed media and enjoy painting animals or semi-abstract forms.

I have work in corporate collections and have exhibited widely in both this country and abroad.

I also like to carve in various woods, alabaster, soapstone or Portland, again human or animal forms and abstracts that I hope people will want to touch.

It is one of the many joys of life to work with a mallet, chisel or paint brush.
