Marwell International Wildlife Art Society Annual Exhibition 2007

The prestigious MIWAS art exhibition was once again a great success with sales totalling £50,000 this year. Despite the poor weather on the opening night of 22 August and the problems created by the Foot and Mouth outbreaks around the south, a huge crowd of eager buyers waited quickly arrived outside Marwell Hall. There was almost a rush into the building as the doors opened with buyers eager to snap up bargains and view the dazzling artwork on show. It has to be said that this year the members of MIWAS really had pulled out all the stops to produce some of their best work to date. On the hanging day we were all excited to see the amazing paintings and sculptures as the exhibition came together. All the artists had obviously really worked hard to produce outstanding pieces and there was a marked improvement and pride taken with framing too.
After much discussion over several committee meetings it had been decided that the exhibition would only run for four days instead of the usual two weeks. Although this meant a lot work for all the volunteers who helped put up and take down the show we were pleased that sales were not affected by the decision. There were still three fabulous private view nights to attend. The weather for the second and third nights improved dramatically and the exhibition was hugely popular with artists and visitors alike.
Soon the committee will be discussing next years’ exhibition when MIWAS will be ten years old! We hope very much that all MIWAS artists will look forward to this event and start working on some amazing pieces of art for what will be a very special occasion.
